Participation of Tajikistan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs at the Global Climate and SDG Synergies Conference

On 29 – 30 June 2026, in Bangkok, H.E. Mr. Sanoi Boyzoda, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, participated in the Global Climate and SDG Synergies Conference, jointly organized by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).

During the High-level Segment “Recommitting to the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda: Regaining Peace, Solidarity, Sustainability and Prosperity” and the thematic session “Water, Health and Climate: Securing Human Well-being in a Changing Climate,” the Deputy Minister highlighted Tajikistan’s strong commitment to advancing climate resilience, water cooperation, and sustainable development. He emphasized the increasing impacts of climate change on glaciers, freshwater resources, and human well-being, noting Tajikistan’s important role as a source of freshwater for Central Asia. He also highlighted the role of the Dushanbe Water Process in promoting international dialogue and cooperation on water-related challenges.

Mr. Boyzoda underscored Tajikistan’s contribution to the global water and climate agenda through initiatives such as the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018–2028,” the International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation 2025. He also highlighted Tajikistan’s efforts in promoting renewable energy, environmental protection, and climate adaptation, noting that over 98 percent of the country’s electricity is generated from hydropower sources.

The Deputy Minister called for strengthened international cooperation, including increased climate finance, technology transfer, and capacity-building support for vulnerable mountainous countries. He reaffirmed Tajikistan’s readiness to continue working with international partners to address climate challenges, advance water cooperation, and accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
