Visit of the Tajikistan Delegation to Malaysia

On 17 November 2024, a delegation from the Republic of Tajikistan, led by H.E. Sulton Rahimzoda, Chairman of the State Committee on Investments and State Property Management, arrived in Malaysia for an official visit. The delegation was accompanied by several key figures, including H.E. Sherali Kabir, Minister of Industry and New Technologies; Mahmud Jumazoda, Counselor at the office of the Assistant to the President of Tajikistan on Economic Affairs; Firuz Sharifzoda, First Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan; Bakhtiyor Sulton, Deputy Chairman of the Tax Committee under the Government of Tajikistan; Khurshed Sheralizoda, Deputy Chairman of the Customs Service under the Government of Tajikistan; Khisrav Sharifzoda, Deputy Director of the State Budget Department of the Ministry of Finance of Tajikistan; Abdughaffor Jamolzoda, Director of the Main Investments Department of the State Committee on Investments and State Property Management; Jamshed Jumakhonzoda, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Tajikistan; and Dilshod Jurazoda, Director General of SUE “Tojinvest” under the State Committee on Investments and State Property Management of Tajikistan.

On the same day, the delegation paid a courtesy visit to H.H. Tunku Ali Redhauddin ibni Tuanku Muhriz, Crown Prince of Negeri Sembilan. Later that day, the delegation was received by the leadership of Public Gold Group. They visited the company’s headquarters, where they were briefed on its operations both within Malaysia and abroad. The parties also discussed potential cooperation between Public Gold Group and similar companies in Tajikistan.

On 18 November 2024, the Tajikistan delegation, led by H.E. Sulton Rahimzoda, Chairman of the State Committee on Investments and State Property Management and H.E. Sherali Kabir, Minister of Industry and New Technologies paid a courtesy visit to H.E. Dato’ Sri Fadillah bin Yusof, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia. During the meeting, the Tajik delegation expressed gratitude to the Malaysian government for facilitating their visit and reaffirmed Tajikistan’s political commitment to strengthening economic ties with Malaysia. The meeting took place in a spirit of mutual understanding and cooperation.

Later on 18 November, the Embassy of Tajikistan in Kuala Lumpur, in partnership with the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Malaysian Consortium of Mid-Tier Companies, hosted the Tajikistan-Malaysia Business Networking Forum. The event saw the participation of C-suit Leadership of top tier Malaysian companies. Welcoming speeches were delivered by H.E. Ardasher Qodiri, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan and H.E. Datuk Nur Jazlan bin Mohamed, Deputy President of Dewan Negara (the Malaysian Senate). The distinguished members of the Tajik delegation delivered presentations on investment opportunities and economic cooperation between the two countries in sectors such as mining, industry, banking, insurance, trade, logistics, and artificial intelligence. The presentations were well-received, leaving a positive impression on the forum participants.

Following the presentations, panel discussions and a Q&A session were held, where participants had the opportunity to ask questions and receive detailed answers about investment conditions in Tajikistan.

That same day, the Tajik delegation met with representatives from various Malaysian government agencies, including the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Malaysian Investment Authority (MIDA), MATRADE, and the Export-Import Bank of Malaysia. The meeting was attended by H.E. Mr Liew Chin Tong, Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry, as well as Ms. Nurbayu Kasim Chang, acting President/CEO of EXIMBANK Malaysia. The meeting focused on potential areas for cooperation and exchange of expertise.

The delegation was also received by Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, Second Minister of Finance of Malaysia. During the meeting, Tajikistan delegation was briefed on the practices of Malaysian sovereign wealth funds as well as government linked investment companies (GLIC).

Later, on 18 November, the Tajik delegation met with the leaders of a group of Malaysia’s chambers of commerce and industry. Leaders of National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (NCCIM), Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI) Malaysian Consortium of Mid-Tier Companies (MCMTC), Association of Chinese Chambers of Commerce an Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM), NAICCIM National Association of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia were present at the meeting and contributed to the insightful exchange of ideas on the possibilities of collaboration between the two countries. During this meeting, the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Tajikistan and the President of the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia signed a Memorandum of Understanding, expressing their intent to collaborate more closely in the future.

Later that day, the First Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan met with the leadership of Malayan Banking Berhad and Maybank Islamic Asset Management. During their discussions, both parties explored potential areas for collaboration and the exchange of knowledge in the banking sector.

On 19 November 2024, the Tajik delegation met with the regional leader of Pacific Inter-Link Group. Later that day, the delegation was received by Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, former Prime Minister of Malaysia and honorary chairman of the Perdana Leadership Foundation.

The delegation also visited an EMS company in Johor State, where they were welcomed by the leadership of Cape EMS Berhad. The delegation toured the company’s facilities and learned about the products manufactured there.

The visit to Malaysia was the first country in the list of four main Southeast Asian countries. On 19 November 2024 the delegation of Tajikistan completed the official visit to Malaysia and departed for their visit to Singapore.
