From 28th to 30th November 2023 the Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan in Malaysia participated in Global Muslim Business Forum 2023 (GMBF2023). The event took place in Kuching, Sarawak garnering the attention of the entire Malaysian business society, as well as international organisations, foreign governments and the diplomatic corps.
Through the Global Muslim Business Forum, the governments, corporations, international organisations, investors and civil society can convene to discuss, deliberate and debate these key issues. It is an avenue for these actors to connect, collaborate and contribute. The Forum will provide insights as well spotlight latest trends in various sectors. GMBF is also a platform to connect between the Muslim World and the non-Muslim community.
In the framework of GMBF2023 the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to Malaysia HE Ardasher Qodiri had meetings with the leaders of various local and international companies/organisations to discuss potential bilateral cooperation.
Deputy Premier of Sarawak
The Ambassador of Tajikistan in Malaysia HE Ardasher Qodiri had a courtesy meeting with Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Minister of Industrial Development, International Trade and Investment Datuk Amar Haji Awang Tengah bin Ali Hasan. During the meeting the parties discussed current and potential cooperation in the spheres of energy, trade, education and industry.
Sarawak Energy
Sarawak Energy is a government linked company based in Kuching, Sarawak. The company is the largest producer of electricity in Sarawak and focuses on hydro-electric power plants. During this meeting it was noted by HE Ardasher Qodiri that almost the entire electricity in Tajikistan is generated by hydroelectric power plants. This similarity between Sarawak and Tajikistan can be a defining basis for mutually beneficial cooperation.
Sarawak Chamber of Commerce and Industry
Sarawak Chamber of Commerce and Industry, established in 1951 is one of the oldest institutions in Sarawak. It has all of the largest corporations in Sarawak as members. During the meeting establishing a logistic chain between Tajikistan and mainland Malaysia and Sarawak was discussed.
Sama Jaya Industrial Park
Sarawak has one of the most successful implementations of free economic zones in Malaysia. Sama Jaya Industrial Park has attracted foreign companies not only from the South East Asian region but also from countries such as Japan, China, Germany and many more.
The Ambassador of Tajikistan in Malaysia HE Ardasher Qodiri had a tour of Sama Jaya and a meeting with the Permanent Secretary ad interim of the Ministry of Industrial Development, International Trade and Investment of Sarawak. During the meeting possible collaboration between free economic zones of Tajikistan and Sarawak, including exchange of experience was discussed.
The participation of the Embassy delegation in the GMBF2023 has resulted in creating new ties between Tajikistan and Sarawak, discovering potential paths for cooperation and attracting the attention of local and international business society to Tajikistan’s investment opportunities.
