Outcomes of the Dushanbe CICA Summit were presented in the OSCE Headquarters

On 3 July 2019 in Vienna, the Tajik Chairmanship of the OSCE Forum for Security Co-operation (FSC) has convened a plenary meeting dedicated to the confidence and security building measures in Central Asia with a particular emphasis to the role of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in regional security.

The Tajik FSC Chairmanship has invited as keynotes speakers the representatives of the CICA Secretariat headed by the Executive Director Dr. Habibullo Mirzozoda. The Executive Director has delivered a comprehensive presentation on the main goals and tasks of the CICA, as well as on the implementation by its Member States of the Catalogue of Confidence Building Measures (CBMs).

A special attention in Dr. Mirzozoda’s presentation was paid to the outcomes of the Fifth CICA Summit held in Dushanbe on 15th June 2019 under the motto of “Shared Vision for a Secure and More Prosperous CICA Region”. It was noted that the Dushanbe CICA Summit has brought the cooperation within the Organization and its development to a qualitatively higher level.

During the general debates the delegations of the OSCE participating States have exchanged views on a wide range of issues of the confidence and security building measures in the OSCE region, with a focus on implementing the Vienna Document and the OSCE Code of Conduct. It was stressed that the development and application of the security building measures within the CICA is in many ways identical to the work carried out by the OSCE FSC.

This plenary meeting was the first among the FSC cycle of events in July on the topic of synergies among the regional organizations and the OSCE in Central Asia, outlined in the Program of the Tajik FSC Chairmanship.
