On September 23, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, Honourable Emomali Rahmon, met in New York with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Honourable Antonio Guterres.
The sides discussed the development of Tajikistan’s cooperation with the United Nations and its institutions.
President Emomali Rahmon stated that we appreciate the role of the organization in the implementation of important political, security, economic and social programs of our country.
The parties discussed the complex and rapidly changing situation of the world, the consequences of economic and financial crises, poverty and food insecurity, and considered necessary the joint actions of the international community in these areas.
Much attention was paid to the issues of climate change, lack of drinking water, melting of glaciers, destruction of biological diversity and socio-economic situation, achievement of Sustainable Development Goals, implementation of Agenda-2030 and the results of the next Summit.
Issues of preparation for the International Conference on Glaciers’ Preservation in 2025 and the next United Nations Conference on Water Issues in 2028, both of which will be held in Dushanbe, were also important topics of conversation.
There was also an exchange of views on the pressing issues of combating terrorism, extremism and other security threats.
